The Killers - Human

I did my best to notice
When the call came down the line
Up to the platform of surrender
I was brought but I was kind
And sometimes I get nervous
When I see an open door
Close your eyes
Clear your heart...
Cut the cord

Are we human?
Or are we dancer?
My sign is vital
My hands are cold
And I'm on my knees
Looking for the answer
Are we human?
Or are we dancer?

Pay my respects to grace and virtue
Send my condolences to good
Give my regards to soul and romance,
They always did the best they could
And so long to devotion
You taught me everything I know
Wave goodbye
Wish me well..
You've got to let me go

Are we human?
Or are we dancer?
My sign is vital
My hands are cold
And I'm on my knees
Looking for the answer
Are we human?
Or are we dancer?

Will your system be alright
When you dream of home tonight?
There is no message we're receiving
Let me know is your heart still beating

Are we human?
Or are we dancer?
My sign is vital
My hands are cold
And I'm on my knees
Looking for the answer

You've got to let me know

Are we human?
Or are we dancer?
My sign is vital
My hands are cold
And I'm on my knees
Looking for the answer
Are we human
Or are we dancer?

Are we human?
Or are we dancer?

Are we human
Or are we dancer?

In an interview with Rolling Stone magazine of the Section of smokers, Brandon Flowers described "human" as "Johnny Cash meets the Pet Shop Boys." Flores said that the song was created by Stuart Price for her work with him on the album sawdust, and has changed very little since then. He confessed to not put in sawdust as "too good".

The cover art for the single is a portrait of the band's guitarist Dave Keuning, and is one of four portraits drawn by Paul Normansell for the album.

The music video for "Human" was released in mid-October 2008 and directed by Daniel Drysdale. It offers the band performed the song in the Goblin Valley State Park, Utah. The portraits of the band prepared for the album Paul Normansell are shown in the video, for example, when the band takes the portraits in front of their faces. Several animals also displayed throughout the video, like a white tiger and a Cougar. The video ends with the band watching the sun setting in the desert, which becomes the album cover, also by Paul Normansell.
